The New York Times: Black History, Continued

Black history is American history.
We should treat it as such.

Our education system has reduced Black history to a few pages in a textbook and a single month in the calendar year. We’re taught that the struggles, achievements and legacies of Black Americans exist on the periphery of our history.

When in truth, the stories of Black Americans are what have shaped
and continue to shape this country.

Our team envisioned a journalistic endeavor that employs Black voices to document and celebrate stories of Black Excellence. Sponsored by MassMutual and Ancestry.com and created by the NYTimes newsroom, the series explored the politics of the past and present, the effort to acquire land and capital, and the legacy of activism that young people have inherited. The project also involved a number of virtual events.
